About Us

Bernie Stevens started Powernet (originally PowerNet Global) in 1992, working out of his basement in Cincinnati selling long distance service to local businesses. In 1996, Powernet acquired its first switch, enabling it to become a facilities-based carrier. Shortly after in 1998, the company acquired its first Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) switch. With those two pieces of technology in place, Powernet was able to expand its offerings and operations, growing into the voice, data, networking, carrier and residential services provider it is today.

In 2012, Stevens channeled the company’s business success into community outreach, starting the Buy-1 Give-1 program. Today, Powernet and Buy-1 Give-1, redubbed Gift1 by Powernet, continue to evolve and grow under the supervision of a new CEO – Bernie’s daughter, Allison Stevens.

Fulfilling a Mission

As a mission-minded company, Powernet is making tablet technology more accessible to everyone. Our relationship with Gift1 allows us to offer tablets at a fraction of the cost of other major manufacturers without sacrificing quality or cutting back on technology. Through the Gift1 program, the same tablets consumers can purchase retail are donated to organizations that put the tablets into the hands of people who can benefit from them.
